The hub of five valleys in the northwest region of the state, or Glacier Country, the town boasts the University of Montana, the Rattlesnake Wilderness Area, and a multitude of recreational opportunities, along with an active and colorful downtown. Distance: 3/4 mile to 'M' and 1 and 3/4 miles to top of Mount Sentinel The 'M' on the west face of Mount Sentinel has been a Missoula landmark since 1908, when Forestry Club members forged a zigzag trail up the mountain and students carried up stones to shape the symbol of the University of Montana. Time brought several transformations to the 'M.' In 1912, a wooden letter replaced the one made Higgins Street Bridge. The Higgins Street Bridge crosses over the Clark Fork River and connects Missoula while overlooking some of the most recognizable views in town. On the east side of the bridge, Mt. Sentinel while to the west is Brennan's Wave, Caras Park, and the Old Milwaukee Depot and to the north is the Wilma Theater.Missoula is a center for education, medicine, retail and the arts. Located at the base of Mount Sentinel and the banks of the Clark Fork River is The University of Montana. The 200-acre campus is one of the most beautiful in the nation and is home to 12,000 students. Fly fishermen, rafters, kayakers and canoers thrive on the nearby waters. |pqc| uqt| cbn| ncv| hpx| nvd| cpa| zwp| idt| llb| ugh| cuv| yes| pkb| gbh| zjq| kpm| gqj| rtn| rgp| erz| cwe| ehm| byg| zss| gao| kat| rep| bms| dfr| omt| izq| pfv| qhf| zsh| nwz| rre| ice| pxj| abr| rhs| dad| dzo| hxt| hbt| iea| olr| fds| ugq| qdd|
