About Us. Tucked away behind bustling Goodramgate stands Bedern Hall, the 14th century dining hall of the Vicars Choral of York Minster.The area around the hall has changed much over the centuries - from medieval splendour, through Victorian slums to its final role before restoration as William Wright's pork pie factory! We look forward to sharing Bedern Hall's eclectic mix of 700 years of history. From songmen to squirrels, priests to pork pies — you can find them all in our hidden medieval hall! Our courtyard cafe and secret garden terrace provide tranquillity in the heart of the City. We are a splendid yet intimate setting for weddings and celebrations. The Bedern College was founded in 1252, to house 36 vicars choral associated with York Minster. The name "Bedern" meant "house of prayer", and was in use by 1270. It was funded by three grants of land in Yorkshire, one in Hampshire, and the rents of 200 houses in York. Bedern Hall is thought to date from the mid-14th century. Of course it is the most beautiful venue and backdrop but the staff and support was above and beyond. We always felt in safe hands. The day ran incredibly smooth and felt like a dream.
