François Mauriac (born Oct. 11, 1885, Bordeaux, France—died Sept. 1, 1970, Paris) was a novelist, essayist, poet, playwright, journalist, and winner in 1952 of the Nobel Prize for Literature. He belonged to the lineage of French Catholic writers who examined the ugly realities of modern life in the light of eternity. Glycogenic hepatopathy [1] (also known as Mauriac syndrome [2] ) is a rare complication of type 1 diabetes characterized by extreme liver enlargement due to glycogen deposition, along with growth failure and delayed puberty. It occurs in some children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes irrespective of their glycemic control. Mauriac syndrome or glycogen hepatopathy (GH) is an uncommon complication of poorly controlled type 1 diabetes mellitus commonly occurring in adolescents. It has become even less common after the emergence of advances on diabetes treatment, but still exists.
