The whole of the Granada TV archives are to return to Manchester, and become part of the new British Pop Archive. The archive, which traces back Granada's history, has spent the last 30 years in Granada Television. Affectionately known as 'Granadaland', Granada Television debuted in the North West on May 3, 1956, and expanded to Yorkshire six months later. Named after the Spanish city of Granada, the company was founded by brothers Cecil and Sidney Bernstein. Their original studios were located on Quay Street in Manchester, where Old Granada Studios - located in the heart of Manchester City Centre - is a platform for creativity, innovation and urban exploration. Mixing commerce, events, arts and culture, Old Granada Studios utilizes Manchester's iconic built heritage to provide the foundations for a hive of activity.Granada TV began broadcasting from Manchester in May 1956, initially to the north of England, and after Yorkshire TV launched in 1968 to the north-west.
