Thirty years ago we started a research program on the toxic effect of alcohol on cardiovascular (N Engl J Med 1989, Ann Intern Med 1994; JAMA 1995, Arch Inter Med 1995) and central nervous systems (Arch Neurol Researchers led by Dr. Manuel Serrano at IRB Barcelona have now revealed that vitamin B12 also plays a pivotal role in cellular reprogramming and tissue regeneration. The findings have been Ramon Estruch, MD, PhD. Professor Ramon Estruch is currently Senior Consultant in the Internal Medicine Department of the Hospital Clinic (Barcelona), a position he has held since 2002. He is also Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at the Barcelona University from 1996 and member of the ERAB Advisory Board at UE from 2011. The group led by Dr. Serrano has recently published another study, in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Rosa Lamuela-Raventós at the University of Barcelona (UB), and Dr. Ramon Estruch at Effect of a weight loss with a hypocaloric Mediterranean Diet and promotion of physical activity on primary cardiovascular disease: the PREDIMED-PLUS Trial.
