Originally an all-boys school (taking the place, in 1954, of St. Vincent's Boys' High School), in September of 1976, St. Malachy's opened its doors to girls for the first time. Today, housing a population of over 1000 students, the staff, students and supporters of the school are united in their determination to preserve our "small Malachy, St ( c. 1094-1148). Malachy was a great reforming bishop in Ireland, when hereditary succession linked church with clan, sacraments were neglected, and old customs frequently prevailed over canon law.
