The Hauz Khas Village of south Delhi is a small affluent district full of boutique shops, upmarket cafes, restaurants and bars. As its name suggests, it really does have a village feel, with narrow streets and shops and restaurants set into the old buildings. Indeed, it's a shame that many aren't even aware that the Hauz Khas fort complex exists at the fag end of the urban village, in the Hauz Khas neighbourhood. Delhi, India. Hauz Khas is an area in Delhi that was developed during the time of Firuz Shah Tughluq (reg. 1351 - 88) along a water reservoir, now commonly referred to as the "Hauz Khas" (royal tank). As a growing sultanate in India, Delhi was facing an acute water shortage, and the water reservoir (hauz) was conceived of as a public utility Firoz Shah Tughlaq (r. 1351-88), the most prolifi c of the Tughlaq builders, restored the abandoned hauz which then came to be called Hauz-Khas (royal tank). At the same time Firoz Shah built the Madrasa-e-Firoz Shahi as well as his own tomb at a focal point in the complex. The connection between the buildings and the royal tank was Hauz Khas Village - also known as "HKV" or, simply, "The Village" - is a neighbourhood that epitomises Delhi's dynamism, vibrancy, and diversity.
