An HIV blood test can determine infection 4-6 weeks after transmission. Treatment options include antiretroviral therapy (ART), which controls viral replication within a person's body. The mission for the Center for AIDS and STD is to prevent transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infection, and to reduce human suffering caused by these infections. To pursue this mission, the Center represents the UW in supervising the Pacific Northwest region's largest AIDS and STD clinical, training, and education programs, in The University of Washington STD Prevention Training Center (UW PTC) is dedicated to increasing the knowledge and skills of healthcare providers in the area of sexual health.
