Pilvi Takala (born 1981, Helsinki) is a performance artist presenting candid camera as art. Takala won the Dutch Prix de Rome in 2011 and the Emdash Award in 2013. Her works have been exhibited in various exhibitions worldwide, most recently in London, Aarhus and Glasgow. She is known best for being in time-based media. The Stroker is a two-channel video installation based on Takala's two week-long intervention at Second Home, a trendy East London coworking space for young entrepreneurs and startups. She mainly works in video installation, and her work can be described as interventions into everyday life. By knowingly misinterpreting rules and social codes, Takala creates confusion; her careful agenda challenges social conventions that are usually taken for Pilvi Takala is, one could say, a rule breaker. Except the rules she breaks are not actually clearly inscribed in a society's codes of conduct.
