Cadhay is approached by an avenue of lime-trees, and stands in an extensive garden, with herbaceous borders and yew hedges, with excellent views over the original medieval fish ponds. The main part of the house was built in about 1550 by John Haydon who had married the de Cadhay heiress. He retained the Great Hall of an earlier house, of which 1 mile north west of Ottery St Mary. From the west take the A30 and exit at Pattesons cross and follow signs for Fairmile and Cadhay. From the east exit the A30 at Iron Bridge, the first exit after Honiton, and follow signs as above. Take a train to Honiton (5 miles) or Feniton (2miles) and arrange a taxi to Cadhay. Cadhay, an historic Tudor manor of special architectural interest in the rural landscape of East Devon.
