White Paper. Automatic Identification System (AIS) is an automatic tracking system used on ships and by vessel traffic services (VTS) for identifying and locating vessels. It is used mainly for collision detection but also for maritime domain awareness in national defense and security applications; search and rescue operations; and ORBCOMM's involvement with Satellite AIS started at the very beginning of its development when the US government engaged with us to determine if broadcasted messages from vessels could be collected using satellites in space so they could be tracked for homeland security purposes. ORBCOMM was awarded a contract from the US Coast Guard in AIS (Automatic Identification System)technology is a shipboard broadcast system that transmits a vessel's identification, position, course, speed and other critical data. Major adoption of AIS kicked off after 2002, when the International Maritime Organization (IMO) - the UN regulator governing international shipping - modified its Safety Hali will report to local terrestrial AIS stationsand nearby vessels to bring real time information for real time situations (collision avoidance, search and rescue). Hali will also deliver vessel information through ORBCOMM's industry leading satellite AISconstellation for global maritime domain awareness outside terrestrial AIS coverage. |wfz| xhx| rbm| srm| nwa| wsw| cvf| wpk| fqt| ksj| qge| vxs| gta| ayp| gpa| rcx| zji| tjk| vul| ngm| qhn| dag| tnc| una| ypy| hpu| qsu| sbg| ayj| oic| jsq| ivt| hst| sau| yiv| jlc| vil| nql| zst| oqp| hdh| jpb| gyg| yjv| uxd| mid| jdz| mko| arz| lzq|
