Joseph Bryant Rotherham (1828-1910) was an English biblical scholar and minister of the Churches of Christ. He was a prolific writer whose best-known work was the Emphasized Bible , a new translation that used "emphatic inversion" and a set of diacritical marks to bring out shades of meaning in the original text. Mr Bryant Qualified from King's College London in 1997, and returned to Sheffield to complete specialised orthopaedic training. Appointed at Rotherham Hospital in 2009 as a consultant with a special interest in shoulder and elbow surgery. Originally from Sheffield he went to study medicine at King's College London. t. e. Joseph Bryant Rotherham 's Emphasized Bible (abbreviated EBR to avoid confusion with the REB) is a translation of the Bible which uses various methods, such as "emphatic idiom" and special diacritical marks, to bring out nuances of the underlying Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic texts.
