These curious souls were students at Westminster Academy (WA) in inner-city London, where more than 90 percent of pupils come from a Black, Asian or ethnic minority background, and they were speaking to Sir Paul Nurse in the Naim Dangoor Auditorium, part of the Dangoor Centre for Medical Education. The Westminster Academy is a new secondary school in West London, housing 1175 pupils and 128 staff members. The sponsor, Exilarch Foundation and the Principal had a powerful vision of learning for the school that embraces the latest thinking in education and the ideals of the RSA Curriculum of the 21st century. The core values of the Academy are Enterprise, Global Citizenship and London. Westminster Academy opened in 2006, and moved to this building in September 2007. It has specialist status in International Business and Enterprise and is fully DfE funded through the City Academies programme. The Academy won the RIBA London Building of the Year award in 2008 and the building has won several other awards listed below.
