With all Zellers department stores closed across The Zellers stores within the Hudson's Bay locations will be between 8,000 and 10,000 square feet, depending on the location. Zellers was founded in 1931 and acquired by HBC in 1978. It operated as the discount division of its flagship Hudson's Bay department stores, with the slogan "Where the lowest price is the law." The Zellers at Bells Corner in Ottawa is still standing, and believe it or not, there is still merchandise inside the store. However, this isn't the classic department store most Canadians grew up going to. Zellers was first opened all the way back in 1931, and at its peak, there were 350 stores across Canada. In 2011, HBC, which owned The Zellers in-store experience and Zellers.ca are planned to launch simultaneously. While the beloved Smiths Falls location will not be immediately returning, there will be some stores close by, in addition to the online option.
