Greystone first opened on the site in 1876 and by the 1950s housed over 6,500 patients. The hospital was plagued by problems and scandals and in the mid-1970s, a grand jury investigation into Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital is considered to be one of the most haunted places in New Jersey. It is said that it is home to hundreds of souls who either passed away as a patient or due to the actions of a patient.
