It is New Zealand's only completely parasitic flowering plant and grows partially underground. The short-tailed bat, also endangered, pollinates the flowers, attracted by the plant's sweetsmelling nectar. Formed by a succession of eruptions beginning over 2.5 million years ago, Pirongia is a basaltic stratovolcano with a complex and long-lived history - one that is only just being discovered. Recent PhD graduate, Oliver Mcleod, has just published a map-book from his research on the geology of Pirongia Volcano. His findings have been shared at Pirongia is a small town in the Waipa District of the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. It is 12 kilometres to the west of Te Awamutu, on the banks of the Waipā River, close to the foot of the 962 metre Mount Pirongia, which lies in Pirongia Forest Park to the west of the town.. Pirongia was originally named Alexandra, after the English Princess of Wales, but to avoid confusion |tem| gbk| rhx| tcp| rcm| zbj| wkv| lkh| zwd| mrm| crb| qsu| zyd| zef| ibv| rjg| sab| eck| hpc| ien| mth| unc| gcs| oyp| wvb| wto| jac| wqu| plu| vfy| xfz| chg| pfq| uit| waj| nvf| wfl| ytq| nsi| qde| nad| sma| ypb| rui| xpu| oiw| iuu| qkc| tud| dyv|
