Delta advertises a 3 lipped cutter head that attaches to a spindle and makes it a real shaper not a router in a table. It comes with a 1/4' and 1/2' collet. As for the 3 lipped knives, they discontinued them before they sold any!!! If you wanted it for router bits only then it is a good machine. I then counter sank 4 screws into the plate to give it a nice firm fit. To remove the plate and router I have to remove 4 screws. I am really surprised to read that anyone did not like theirs. It has been reliable. Only once did the on-off switch fail and it was repaired quickly. Depends on the HP of the unit. For bits with cutting surface up to 1.5", a 2 1/4 HP router is sufficient. For bits up to 2.5-3", you really need a 3 HP router. Frank I think a handheld is inherently safer because you have your hands on the handles. That's probably the most important thing is to keep your hands far enough away from the cutter to be safe.
