It operated as a local fraternity until it closed in 1990. ^ Originally the Zeta chapter of Phi Alpha, established on December 7, 1919. ^ Originally was the Lambda chapter of Phi Alpha, established on February 19, 1921. ^ Originally the Mu chapter of Phi Alpha, established on April 16, 1922. ^ Chapter formed as the Nu chapter of Phi Alpha Phi Sigma Delta. To eight students at Columbia University in 1909, there was no fraternity on the campus that was sufficiently attractive to induce a desire for affiliation. These friends agreed that they should organize a fraternity to perpetuate and nurture the comradeship of the group. Phi Sigma Phi,(ΦΣΦ) is a national fraternity in the United States founded on July 30, 1988 in South Bend, Indiana by chapters formerly of Phi Sigma Epsilon that declined to participate in that fraternity's merger into Phi Sigma Kappa.There are currently five active chapters and one active colony of Phi Sigma Phi nationwide. The current national president is University of Wisconsin-Stevens The Beta Nu Chapter incorporated itself as a 503 (c) (7) non-profit organization. The Beta Nu Chapter is the first, and currently the only chapter, in the National Organization to have a house. In Spring 2011, the Chapter hosted the Northeast Region Conference for the first time since 2003.
