A short documentary discussing the history and future of RAF Chilmark, the nuclear bunker in Wiltshire, England.Created as part of project for a module in Hi Chilmark is a Wiltshire village and civil parish of some 150 houses straddling the B3089 road, 11 miles (18 km) west of Salisbury, England. The parish includes the hamlets of Mooray and Portash, both close to the south of Chilmark village; and the dispersed hamlet of Ridge, to the southwest.. It closed as a depot in 1994, with further disposal of much of the ordnance undertaken until 1997. It is situated at Chilmark Quarry, which has been a stone RAF Chilmark. RAF Chilmark in Wiltshire was built in 1936 and by 1965 it was the RAF's only remaining ammunition supply depot. The base was shut down entirely in 1995 but it took the better part of two years to clear live ammunition from the site. Flickr user Newage2 visited the base's bomb store in early February of 2016. In 1936 the site became RAF Chilmark and was used to store munitions. It closed in 1995. The nuclear bunker ceased operational use in 1992 after the Cold War 17 May 2023 1. Chilmark was a small limestone quarry that provided stone used in the construction of Salisbury Cathedral. The quarry closed in 1935 as demand for limestone as a building material decreased. The quarry and land around it was bought by the RAF in 1936.
