October 8, 2014 - The Times Colonist reported on the launch of bikemap.org a website dedicated to tracking cycling incidents. Dr.Trisalyn Nelson, geography, says "The great thing is that our technology maps globally, so you can map anywhere in the world," said Nelson, who worked with a team of researchers in the UVic Geography SPAR Lab (spatial pattern and analysis research) on the site. Trisalyn Nelson, SPAR lab, launch #bikemaps "With only 30 to 40 per cent of cycling accident data captured by traditional data sources, BikeMaps.org represents an important effort to fill data and information gaps", says Nelson. Trisalyn Nelson is joining the Department of Geography at UCSB as Jack and Laura Dangermond Endowed Chair of Geography. Dr. Nelson joined USCB from Arizona State University where she has been the Director of the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning since 2016.
