Mythago Wood has been beautifully written by Holdstock, with realistic dialogue and sympathetic characters. The novel's first third, where Steven is alone in his home and first experiencing the eerie manifestations near Ryhope Wood, is reminiscent of William Hope Hodgson 's 1908 masterwork The House on the Borderland , with its old man in a The Mythago Wood collection won a Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire in 2003 and Celtika won one as well in 2004 (foreign language novel). His short story "Scarrowfell" also won an Imaginales Award in 2004. Robert Holdstock is the creator and the author of the famous Mythago series. This series first began with Mythago Wood, published in 1984.
